Organisation

2.2 Main Components

Organising is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up

What is an organisation?

Definition

A group of people working together and coordinating their efforts to fulfil the needs of its stakeholders

Purpose

To collaborate towards a common ambition

The organisation is in the centre of the CUBE® framework.

It represents a collection of people working together in different layers to provide some kind of outcome value to their stakeholders. This can be a company, a government, a start-up, a non-profit organisation and even a department or division within an organisation.

The content of each layer varies between organisations, but the concept of each layer applies regardless.

The Outer Layer

The interface between the “outside” of the organisation and the inside is through the Stakeholders, regardless of layer.

The Inner Layers

The inside of the organisation is divided into six layers. The higher layers are leading layers, the bottom are supporting layers and in the middle is the operations layer.

Leading Layers

There are then two leading layers: Ownership and Leadership with the purpose of setting direction and creating the ability to progress in the direction.

Operations

The operations layer is where things actually happen. This is where strategies, plans and daily activities are executed and it is only through execution that an actual outcome value is produced.

Supporting layers

There are also two supporting layers: Information and Technology with the purpose of providing clarity and accelerating operations.
