Design Principles
2.1 Core ConceptsThe CUBE® Framework Design Principles
Holistic
The framework shall consider the inter-connectivity and interdependence of all components relevant, rather than focusing on individual components or aspects in isolation
Comprehensible
The framework shall be easy to understand, clear and accessible to its intended audience
Practicable
The framework shall be practical, feasible and capable of being effectively implemented in real-world scenarios
The CUBE® Framework is designed to be a standard and foundation for designing business operations as well as internal and external collaboration. To achieve this, the framework is based on a couple of design principles that are crucial and that shall permeate the whole framework and its documentation.
Rather than focusing on individual components in isolation, the CUBE® Framework shall take the approach to consider the entire organisation and its context as a whole. This means that the inter-connectivity and interdependence of all components within the organisational system must be taken into account to ensure that they can be integrated effectively.
This is achieved by having the interface between the inside of the organisation and the outside of the organisation as the starting point for the framework. It all starts with the relation between the organisation’s stakeholders and the organisation itself to ensure that the dependency between the internal and external is clearly integrated.
The point of the framework is to enable collaboration through common language. If the language cannot easily be learnt or understood, it provides no value. Therefore, all models, knowledge, tools related to the CUBE® Framework shall be easy to understand, clear and accessible to anyone who find it valuable.
This is achieved by leaning on already established definitions and common best practices as much as possible. Some interpretations might be made, but in those cases they are done with the purpose of ensuring a coherent whole.
Information is only valuable if it can be translated into actions, only then can any value be achieved. Therefore, the CUBE® framework shall not only be theoretical, it must be practical, feasible and capable of being implemented in real-world scenarios. That is where the real value of the CUBE® framework come into play.
This is achieved by clearly stating the theory to enable a mental model to be made on which the practical application and all components are built upon. The knowledge, methods and tools shall also be clearly stated how to apply in real-world scenarios to close the gap between theory and activity.
