Information

2.3 Organisation Layers

Information is a source of learning and wisdom. But unless it is organised, processed, and available to the right people in a format for decision making, it is a burden, not a benefit

What is information?

Definition

Sensory stimulus carrying a message to convey an idea

Purpose

To provide clarity to a topic with facts and knowledge

Effective communication is the transfer of information

The internal and external collaboration is based on effective communication. Communication is the transfer of information between parties. Information can take many forms such as words, texts, pictures, sounds, shapes, body language or other sensory stimulus. Most of the time the message becomes clear when using multiple formats to convey information or ideas.

The purpose information is to bring clarity. Without something to unite around, getting mutual interpretation of an idea becomes difficult. To often are ideas communicated using only oral communication and ambiguous words. The result is multiple interpretations with the result of uncertainty, frustration and conflicts.

The ability to use information and communication for its intended purpose of bringing clarity, enables harnessing the power of all the other layers. Information needs to be methodically produced, stored, refined and consumed to be of any value. Today this is mainly done with the help of Information Technology (IT).
